Gives a better dust and waterproof seal than that offered by rubber bungs Easy to Install Relatively inexpensive

Will not work with all Junction boxes

Sometimes a cable gland which is ideally sized for a junction box, will be too large to tighten in on the cable e.g. on CAT5 cable

It is cheaper, easier and more flexible to use the rubber bungs which come with junction boxes
